Music
Well, 2003 has become the year of the Negro Executive Thug. With the presidential appointments of Jermaine Dupri and Chris Lighty respectively to Arista Records and Jive Records, BMG has proclaimed that it is ?cool? to bring the ?workers back into the Big House?. These multi-million dollar contract signings have resulted in sweeps of major executives in the Black Music Division. It always seems strange to me that although the Black music divisions consistently outsell the pop departments all major sweeps happen to just the Black Folks. Well in the words of Jesse Jackson we?ll ?Keep Hope Alive?. Who is to say that these two music industry giants can?t come in and revamp Arista Black Culture (ABC), oh yeah that was the first promotion campaign Arista came up with under Dupri?s guise. The staff actually gave out t-shirts and gold caps with various dollar signs and ghetto insignia as tschosky items during the All Star Game in Atlanta. Isn?t that counter productive and stereotypical propaganda against the Black race? - Just a question. Who knows these two music giants may indeed be able to revamp the state of music today, if not they sure as hell are taking as much paper as possible. Did you hear about Lighty?s 10 million dollar contract signing of Mobb Deep to Jive/Violator. C?mon those are my boys too but you tell me when the labels ever going to recoup that money - unless them cats have stopped drinking and hanging out I bet $100 they miss 8 out of 10 studio sessions....It?s nice to hear Suge Knight is again back out of jail. Suge has become a modern day post war rebel of his day. Whatever opinion you may have of the man he indeed has set a precedence in the game of music following in the footsteps of other ruthless music dictators the likes of Walter Yetnikoff, Clive Davis and even Sylvia Rhone...you heard me!.....Sony Records has been forced to downsize its staff once again due to the untimely departure of music head Tommy Motolla. Let?s hope that the once infamous Sony can bring back the glory of days past, it?s really sad when artists the likes of Michael Jackson need to stage press conferences with Reverend Al Sharpton to proclaim the label is run by ?Devils??What?s the deal with Rocafella?s purchase of Armandale vodka? Was this a tax write off or what??Last but not least, can someone tell The Fugees, Eric B & Rakim, Ultramagnetic MC?s, EPMD and Pharcyde to squash the bullshit and get back in the studio and do what they do best?make music!
porn
Well with the soaring rise in popularity of urban music and porn merging, evidenced by record breaking video sales of Hustler?s utilization of Snoop Dogg and Mystikal, Playboy Home video has jumped on the band wagon with its latest adult entertainment release set for April 8th. The new DVD: Playboy?s Hip-Hop & Rock: Platinum Bad Boys become Playboy Photographers hopes to position Playboy to a new consumer demographic. Maybe now some of these companies the likes of Video Team and Vivid can consider signing more ethnic girls and guys, because the ratio that exists now is down right deplorable?Everybody?s favorite girl Lacey Duvalle has been released from her contract with Video Team. Despite rumors of drug use and pregnancy, we wish Lacey the best, but I must say to Latin porn starlet Mercedes Ashley who publicly trashed Lacey it is our job as women of color to stick together and understand the complexities that go into the gig. Instead of publicly degrading Ms. Duvalle you should be lending support. Ms. Mercedes in your own words, ?WAKE THE FUCK UP!??Marc Anthony has signed an exclusive distribution deal with SMP International (Sean Michaels Productions). His first release is entitled ?She-Males Sluts & Sweethearts?. Does this mean that Marc did a scene with a She-Male? I guess we gotta buy the tape and find out?Last but not least check out the original music game pimp - Ice-T?s new release Pimpin? 101. Fatt Entertainment and IVD Productions joined forces to feature adult stars Mr. Marcus, Obsession and Chloe Black to name a few. The feature includes a soundtrack of 14 original songs by Busta Rhymes, M.O.P., Amil, Brand Nubian, Ice T, S.M.G. and Dirty South. Ya?ll go out and support this one - the original ?Cop Killer? is about to take this porn shit to another level?
Till next Time,
Divine B
